Mr. Kenneth Tysick assumed the role of Director of Bands at Blue Valley Northwest High School in the fall of 2024. Prior to this appointment, he served one year at Harmony Middle School and two years at Blue Valley Northwest as the Assistant Director of Bands.
Before relocating to the Kansas City area from Wichita, Kansas, Mr. Tysick taught in the Maize School District, where he was Director of Bands at Maize Middle School and Assistant Director of Bands at Maize High School. While at Maize Middle School, he directed all aspects of the band program, including Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Sixth Grade Band. Under his leadership, the Maize Middle School Symphonic Band was selected to perform at the 2021 Kansas Music Educators Association State Convention.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Tysick taught in the Andover Public Schools in Wichita, Kansas, as well as at St. Aloysius Junior High School in Bowling Green, Ohio.
During his graduate studies, Mr. Tysick served as a teaching assistant in the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University. His responsibilities included directing athletic bands (marching band, basketball band, and hockey band), assisting with wind bands and chamber ensembles, and supervising undergraduate music education majors.
In addition to his school teaching, Mr. Tysick is the Director of the Leawood Studio Orchestra, an ensemble of the Leawood Stage Company, where he has directed productions and musicals since 2016. He also joined the traditional music staff of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection (Leawood Campus) in January 2023 as the Youth Orchestra Director.
Mr. Tysick holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a concentration in conducting from Wichita State University and a Master of Instrumental Music Education with a concentration in conducting from Bowling Green State University.
He enjoys traveling and family time with his partner, Chy, and two dogs, Zoey & Phoebe. He also has started a hobby and interest in 3D printing with both resin and filament.
