Mr. Kenneth Tysick is honored to return to BVNW to serve as the director of bands.
Prior to this position, Mr. Tysick taught at Harmony Middle School for one year and served as the assistant director of bands at Blue Valley Northwest high school for two years. Before moving to the Kansas City area, Mr. Tysick taught in the Maize School District, where he served as the director of bands at Maize Middle School and assistant director of bands at Maize High School. While at Maize Middle, he maintained all aspects of the middle school band program including: the symphonic and concert bands, jazz band and sixth grade band. During his time, he redesigned the structure of the program to provide optimal efficiency with an emphasis on growth and success for all band students. Mr. Tysick’s Maize Middle School symphonic band had the honor of being selected to perform at the 2021 Kansas State Music Educators Convention. Before Maize, Mr. Tysick taught in the Andover Public Schools and at St. Aloysius Junior High School in Bowling Green, Ohio.
During his graduate studies, Mr. Tysick served as a teaching assistant in the college of musical arts at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. He held responsibilities in leading the athletic bands (marching band, basketball band, & hockey band), wind bands, chamber ensembles, and supervision of undergraduate music education majors.
Additionally, Mr. Tysick is the director of the Leawood Studio Orchestra, an entity of the Leawood Stage Company. He has been directing their shows and musicals since 2016. He also joined the staff of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection (Leawood Campus) as the youth orchestra director in January of 2023.
Mr. Tysick earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a concentration in conducting from Wichita State University (KS) and a Master of Instrumental Music Education with a concentration in conducting from Bowling Green State University (OH).
He enjoys traveling and family time with his partner, Chy, and two dogs, Zoey & Phoebe. He also has started a hobby and interest in 3D printing with both resin and filament.
