Kenneth Tysick is excited to join the Blue Valley Northwest team as the new Assistant Director of Bands!
Prior to this position, Mr. Tysick served as the Director of Bands at St. Aloysius Junior High School in Bowling Green, Ohio from 2015 – 2017. He taught in the Andover Public Schools from 2017-2018, and most recently taught in the Maize School District from 2018-2021.
While teaching in the Maize School District, Mr. Tysick served as the Director of Bands at Maize Middle School and Assistant Director of Bands at Maize High School. While at Maize Middle, he maintained all aspects of the middle school band program including: the symphonic and concert bands, jazz band and sixth grade band. During his tenure, he redesigned the structure of the program to provide optimal efficiency and success for all students. Mr. Tysick’s Maize Middle School symphonic band had the honor of being selected to perform at the 2021 Kansas State Music Educators Convention.
During his graduate studies at Bowling Green State University, Mr. Tysick served as a teaching assistant with leadership responsibilities for the basketball, hockey and marching bands. He served as a graduate conductor in the wind band area, conducting all wind bands on campus. He also had the opportunity to mentor undergraduate music education students.
An avid musical theatre and opera enthusiast, Mr. Tysick has had the opportunity to direct the orchestras for numerous musical theatre and opera productions in both the Wichita and Kansas City areas.
Mr. Tysick earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a concentration in Horn from Wichita State University and a Master of Instrumental Music Education with a concentration in conducting from Bowling Green State University.
